Finally, I have seen my number one must-visit country, at least the southern part. This opportunity turned out so unexpectedly, that there was no time to make such a list. We decided just to make some kind of lazy holiday journey. As it has to be lazy – it surely has to include sun soaking on a beach. After a quick glimpse on a map of Vietnam and considering seasonal weather conditions our sight turned to Phu Quoc island. I must confess though, this was my first climate-changing trip. Flight from London to HCMC wasn’t so exhausting as I expected, so just having landed I couldn’t wait to get to the beach. After another flight from Saigon to Phu Quoc –I was finally under the hottest sun I could ever imagine.

Totally have forgotten about time, I surely burned my skin. Having been saved by spa procedures during the next few days. Being that kind of person who can’t stay in the same environment for long, even if it is too good, I was eager for some adventure. And we certainly got one when decided to visit these beautiful An Thoi Islands.

While being in an open sea, we’ve been caught by a storm; I was pretty frightened that time. I was begging to turn back, once water started getting into our boat. Clearly, we didn’t make it to the islands. But we had an opportunity to visit another beautiful place, I’d call it fishermen’s harbor where we even tried grilled fish straight from the sea. After all, I was really happy to have this “boat trip”, as I had an opportunity to see so much more.

When it comes to food there, it is simple and complex at the same time. We didn’t want to have a dinner at the same place every evening. After having visited few places, that were actually pretty similar, we decided to try something at Duong Dong market. When it comes to seafood, you can find literally everything there. Being not too fussy about food, this place became our favorite. My only regret is that, I couldn’t find fresh green salad that I cannot live without. Fortunately, this was completely offset by a huge variety of available fresh fruits.

We decided to spend a few last days of the trip in Ho Chi Minh City. At first I thought that it would be adventurous just to wonder the streets, as most of tourists love to do there. The streets are so vibrant and just loaded with different types of cafes, food is literally everywhere there, as my favourite fresh coconuts which I’ve been enjoying almost every day there. In the evening it was getting even more interesting when streets were starting to get loaded with ubiquitous motorbikes and huge amount of people.
Lightning on the streets in the evening is so bright and vivid and I personally got used to see this kind of decoration only on Christmas in the UK. To avoid spending the remaining time just sitting in a hotel, we booked a Mekong Delta river tour.
The trip gave me very joyful emotions, I have seen authentic villages, coconut and brick factories situated just on the riverbanks and also enjoyed a super tasty boat dinner. Writing about this right now, brings me back in there, with a definite aspiration to come back and spend much more time there. I also look forward visiting north of this colourful place on earth with its temples, Sapa rice fields and to see Ha Long Bay.
