The Workwear of now

Jeans are such wearable and inevitable peace of wardrobe. There is always a place for another pair in your wardrobe. This time it’s “fashionable” to wear “not skinny” high-rise straight through the leg or cropped flares – Have you already got one? – Me, not. I don’t think that I ever going to own a cropped flares (whispering) just because I don’t think they could possibly make me look better at all. Or own a pair of culottes. I for one haven’t seen anyone who they would suit.

For one thing, tell me, how many pairs of jeans do you own? Evidently – I suppose that it might have taken a while for you to think – that means that the answer is more than 5, right? – And now think of the pairs that you are actually wearing. Bet less than 3. I have been struggling over years in search of the perfect pair of jeans (considering my piles of jeans are taking a biggest part of my wardrobe) and discovered that there is no perfect pair at all. There is just your mood, reflecting what you’ve seen, read, who you recently spoke to. Am I right? It all influences you in a certain way. But we always have to be implementing our desires in correspondence to our shape. That’s why there are only few relevant ones.

At first what is a concept of jeans? We know (blah-blah) jeans were created as a work wear that is why they were made of heavyweight 100% cotton denim. Nowadays we are feeling nostalgic for proper authentic denim. Which was popular in 70-80s amongst youth and greaser subculture.

Even for its “true-denim” look you have to have it. They will work for you all year around. And will go with almost everything from evening trophy jackets and heels to simple white tee and converses. I’m in love with the idea of pairing such distressed and greasy denim with a couture top or jacket. Remember that U.S. Vogue November’88 cover with Michaela Bercu on it – there is still so much chic coolness and yumminess in this combination.

Importantly, such jeans will give a vintage edge to every of your outfits. It is just a matter of time to find your perfect one. Go to pros – Levi’s, Lee, and Wrangler. Try your luck with Levi’s 501, or my latest favourites – Wedgie jeans from Levi’s. You have to consider your shape though – whether you want them to hug your waist and hips going slim through the leg, or to be a bit of a roomy fit. The same advice I would recommend for the 501s. If you are an even more sophisticated person – make yours to fit perfectly by made-to-measure or go for the Re/Dones. These types of jeans would serve you forever, and will get even better with time, obtaining this desirable “lived-in” look. To achieve the “vintageness” there is a good word from Levi’s CEO and President Chip Bergh A good pair of denim doesn’t really need to be washed in the washing machine except for very infrequently or rarely.”

But there still types of denim that I wouldn’t say “bye” to (just because the “true” denims are our favourite for now) even for their versatility. I am talking another type of “jeans” – black skinnies. There is nothing much to say – just try and buy ones that would work for you at its best, considering length rise, fabric – with skinnies it counts whether they are made of 100% cotton or from more soft fibers. I like Paige’s Verdugo jeans which are made of really comfortable soft fabric and doesn’t look like spay-on jeans.

And one more and the last, at least for me – is a slim but not too stretchy “jeans” with right amount of whiskering. And what is more important – in right places, otherwise it would make your legs look a bit rounder. Best that I’ve found were from R13 and Rag and Bone, these ones don’t look like jeggings (this is exactly what we should be avoiding when looking for whiskered jeans).

The main thing is when looking for trends always remember what you really need though.
