Appropriate dressing?

Are there some dressing rules for any occasion? Apart from written dress code. I guess no, (or may be Google will tell you). For some reason we take weather (no? For Britain it’s kind of really hard to predict) or what other people are used to wear for similar occasions into consideration. Could someone, possibly, appear in a gown on kid’s playground (taking not a fashion shoot) or wearing ripped jeans and tee for some kind of ball event? – I think most of us would say “No”. In a word, that would be called impropriate dressing.

At once, I remembered Bridget Jones, being dressed up in a Bunny Costume, visiting prudish hypocritical Easter Party. I bet, sometimes we catch ourselves in such situations, may be not as in the movie (actually, Bridget behaved herself pretty cool), but mentally for sure. Thinking whether do we look “normally”, catching a couple of prejudged glances thrown on you.

I feel sometimes confused, thinking of what leg revelation is “allowed” and not considered to be provocative during a city walk. Remember Brigitte Bardot and her extremely short white shorts (that looked much more like a knickers than shorts). It does look beautiful, playful but at the same time not vulgar. Think it deals a lot with your shape though.

Another bewilderment occurs, when you’ve got some beautiful piece of clothing for some hypothetical occasion, and you’re still waiting … and here comes the question – Do you really need to wait? Answering this question, I decided to prove myself that every day is a great occasion for showing off your special garment peice. I decided to put together McQ Alexander Mcqueen knitted skirt and new Valentino Tango pumps for our usual Saturday family grocery shopping. To spend more time in my newly revealed combo, I asked my husband to go for a city center walk before doing our planned shopping. It would be nothing to say, that I was feeling great, confident, even after catching a few surprised glances thrown on my skirt while I was caring my 3-year-old daughter. And even after my Valentino pumps started being a bit tight I was still trying not to let this affect my gait and tried to carry on with a good posture. I wouldn’t like to tell about the grocery shopping, but when my lovely daughter told me that she needed a toilet I new it couldn’t be easy. And it wasn’t, as I ended up with my beautiful shoes and Wolford tights being pretty wet. (Hope you understand that it wasn’t me.)

After all, when I was supposed to feel really depressed and exhausted, I did feel joyful. It was like overcoming a childhood fear and the feeling of being a “fish out of water”. Yes, I did it! Impropriate dressing. Sometimes I even started to catch myself on a controversial dressing when we’re about to leave for some special occasion. There was another case, when I appeared wearing jeans and a Topshop cotton sweater for a night party. (The thing was that I thought we were invited just for a evening cup of tea. And realized, that I’ve got it wrong, when we arrived to a disco party.) After all I was considered to be the most confident girl at the party. Occasionally.

And for now, I can say, that there is no any special occasion or a dress code needed, when you are about to go out. All you need is your attitude and right amount of confidence.

A simple Impact

As summer is approaching there is always the idea of buying that perfect basic thing that would make you feel fresh summery and just Fab. I’m sure all of us have already surfed through all the online shops looking for this special garment: dress, shorts, top… As for me, I did too. And found out, that actually there is one and only basic “thing” that would work perfectly for spring –summer time and for every occasion. I’m talking about that beloved basic white T-shirt. Exactly!

The one, that you could, possibly, find everywhere from H&M to Net-a-Porter. I’ve found some great ones on Re/Done online store. They do look cool and vintage (that perfect vintageness of a white tee is what I was looking for).

Here is the thing, I was just thinking that there is some good reason to swap your beloved white cotton shirt (which is very trendy and very 90s now) to simple white Tee. I’m not talking about pairing it with ubiquitous vintage Levi’s (what looks great beyond controversy), think wearing it for special occasions, for evening dressing. Pair it with beautiful Alexander McQueen Ruffled silk maxi skirt, or Temperley London maxi skirt. There was a time I was eager to wear a white tee on my wedding day pairing it with one of those dreamy Lanvin maxi skirts. But I ended up just dreaming…(whatever).

Albeit there are much more possibilities of wearing a basic white tee not like a basic. Again, for going out – imagine it with a high-waisted black pair of jeans and some colourful high-heeled sandals (green?), don’t forget about adding a pair of drop earrings. For more casual looks – I think there is nothing much to say: just wear you white tee instead of white shirt, you would look much more younger and carefree. And just for the record, it’s better to have both…))

Take your right for Bright

How many times do we refuse going for bright colours in favour of monochromes when we’re shopping? I for one recently have been choosing greys, nudes or black shades of everything, and it didn’t matter whether it was clothing or accessories, or even my pen. Occasionally, not long ago, when I was choosing a Bella Freud jumper – just to cheer up my mood for upcoming warm weather – I decided to ask my husband’s opinion which one to choose – black or grey “rockers” jumper. Surprisingly for me, he pointed on a bright pop-pink-coloured jumper – the one that wasn’t even on my “checklist”- substantiating his choice by constant fatigue of my achromatism in everyday life. At first, I was amazed of how possibly he could imagine me, wearing such colour. A second later, I asked myself – “What the heck, why not? “

A few minutes later I was combining this “bright treasure” with almost everything from my wardrobe in my head realising what a great impact it does to my mood. So this moment was the start point of my “bright-coloured” love story.

Then, I discovered that there is so much more that rainbow could bring you, apart from being just a colour, it changes your attitude, mood. You start noticing things that you would never pay attention to before. It somehow changes you in a good way. I noticed myself feeling more confident when wearing certain bright colours.

I discovered some old purple shoes that I bought about 10 years ago (thought that it was my big fashion mistake and being not brave enough to show off them before) are my favourites now. I’ve also noticed that fabric quality looks better when it’s bright-coloured.

I’ve gone even further with my “pop-eyed-colour” obsession playing with some stickers for my notebook and phone, earphones etc. I know, it may sound a bit childish, but may be to be childish in a right way can bring some happiness, at least for a while?
